Fear and Power

In X-men: God Loves, Man Kills William Stryker is trying to eradicate all mutants. He believes they are too powerful and too different to live in a world of humans. However, are they really all that powerful, all that dangerous?

In this graphic novel is it implied that Stryker and his team of Purifiers have killed many mutants, in the beginning they even kill two young children just because they are different. What harm had they done? He fears what they will grow up to be.

Later in the novel Stryker's team succeeds in capturing Professor X, Storm, and Cyclops. He tortures Professor X with images of evil mutants and the offers his hand in friendship.  Stryker plans to the professors mind control ability to kill all other mutants. If the x-men are so easy to capture, why is he so afraid?

Around the same time the Purifiers have also captured the sister of Colossus, Illyana, while she and Kitty are staking out an area where the purifiers have detection devices. While trying to rescue Illyana, Kitty almost gets captured herself. She does, however, manage to escape just before the gas is let out.

After Magneto and the X-men come to Kitty's rescue while she is running from the purifiers, she informs them that Illyana has been taken. They all then go to rescue Illyana, as well as Cyclops and Storm. They then proceed to Madison Square Garden where Stryker is giving a sermon of ministry against mutants. Here is where Stryker uses the professors ability to psychically link with mutants against him. Suddenly, mutants start to feel pain in their head and their ears being to bleed.

Enter, the X-men and Magneto. A few humans are frightened of their appearance, but others realize they are not there to harm them, as the notice Magneto repair the roof he has just entered through. Stryker then attacks him with a direct psi-beam. The humans then realize the Stryker has gone too far. He even kills is most trusted subordinate once he realized she too has blood running from her ears, signifying her as a mutant.

After Cyclops and Wolverine enable Professor X, the team tried to reason with Stryker. He then pulls out a gun and points it at the X-men. BLAM! A gun goes off, however it is the gun of one of the police men. In the end it was a human who took down the human. All this time being afraid of mutants, hating, and killing mutants, a human stands up for them and takes Stryker down.

Stryker was afraid of what he did not understand and tried to kill them all with no reason. He was afraid of what they could do, not necessarily what they would do. Every race has good and evil, so do mutants, and usually the good wins the balance.
